I need to cut a hole in an asphalt parking lot to pour some footings. I was looking for some easy way to make fairly neat looking holes so I can dig then finish the cement level with the surrounding asphalt and have it look decent. Circular saw with abrasive blade seems overly messy, so I was considering a jackhammer, like the Bosch Brute or something like that.
Anybody ever done this?
Thanks in advance. Rich.

Go abrasive blade, cleaner cut. THEN Bosch. Although they make an asphalt cutting tool that I haven't tried yet.
I just got a bosch brute a few days ago. Busted out a 12" thick 6x7 slab that some moron poured. Great tool, but it took a while.

We use a walk behind concrete saw with an abrasive blabe as Tommy advised. Follow with a standard jackhammer, it is faster than the Brute. When the saw is not available we use a spade bit on the hammer and get a decent straight cut if we are carefull. The trick to using just the jack hammer is balancing the hammer and walking it down the cut line to score the cut first. Takes a little practice, but can be done. We have a few guys than even cut a concrete slab that way. Fortunately, I am not one of them<G>. I'm gettin to old for that stuff.

Well, I was all ready to rent the walk behind saw and jackhammer when one of my guys tried out an old automotive-type chipping hammer with a chisel, kind of like what is used to cut out an old muffler. Went thru the stuff pretty easy, and he was able to do a neat job since he had a lot of control over the tool. The cuts only took him an hour, so no need to rent anything.
Thanks everybody for the suggestions. Rich.
