How do you get the proper angle if the piece lays flat to cut it on my saw?
Are you saying that your laying the piece of cove flat in your miter saw bed? If so you need to know the angle of the cove that you have, most coves are 45°. http://www.dewalt.com/us/articles/article.asp?Site=woodworking&ID=2
Go to this site and read it over, it shows you how to do what your asking and the angles that you need to set your saw at.
