I have a job installing a 8′ Pella Designer Series slider in an opening where a Marvin 6′-8″ unit with a transom currently resides. I need to cut the drivit to expose the nailing flange to remove the old unit and facilitate the install of the new door.
My question is, what is the best method for clean cutting finished drivit, abrasive wheel in a circular saw, angle grinder with a diamond blad something else? If any of you gentelmen have ideas on what has worked well for you I am intrested.
This is a $650,000 home and new client , I would like to use the best possible method.
Thanks,
Les

Cutting it won't be the problem.....installing the new unit so that it's properly sealed and detailed for dryvit will be.....good luck.....
If you're not properly trained and factory certified to work with EIFS then dont. My liability carrier sent out a memo a couple of years ago saying they will no longer cover related claims. too much trouble (rot, mould) with poor installations
To do the installation right your going to need to remove a lot more of the existing siding then you plan to. If there is a breaking point within a few feet, like a corner or adjacent window then just hack it all off and start fresh. its the best way to feather the texture to match the old
If you want to cut the siding close to the new door size, you can't. the system does'nt work that way.
get in touch with your regional drivit supplier and they will give you direction
