Any pointers on cutting a 5′ opening in a first floor wall made of brick and terra cotta tile?
I’m planning on putting in a 10″ beam to support the second floor.
Thanks
Rich

Need more information.
Is it a brick veneer or multi wye load bearing brick wall. where is the terra cota tile?
What is the beam bearing on, brick terra cota, wood, steel post or framing?
Cutting either is straight forward with a diamond blade saw or angle grinder, and using a chipping or demo hammer inside the cut.
Dave
Dave It is a brick veneer with a 4 1/2" wide terra cotta tile. No wood.
The beam will sit on the brick and tile, but I need to cut out enough to get the 7' by 10" beam into place. I was going to build a temporary support inside for the second floor.Rich
Thanks for responding, today I cut the brick slid the beam in part way then cut the terra cotta and slid the beam in the rest of the way. We had a couple of cracks in the mortar, mortared brick in the gaps and filled the cracks. No problems. Thanks
Is this structural terra cotta?
If so have you got engineering design for the details? I really don't know anything about it, but question if it can take the point loads of a beam.
Bill The rest of the house has window and door openings with steel for headers so it already takes the load.
