CUTTING LIMESTONE for egress window
Client asked me about installing an egress window in a basement with limestone foundation.
Can that stuff be cut, or do you have to disassemble part of the wall and rebuild it around the frame?

St.Paul is a large enough city to have a listing in the yellow pages of companies that cut concrete, stone and similar materials in buildings.
Most use a glorified type of chainsaw. Diamond chain, water coolant...powered by gasoline engine or hydraulics.
Might even rent one from an industrial rental shop...check out the prices on rent versus contractor.
Often the contractor is the best bet! He knows what he is doing and will be in and out is a short time. He will be tired and you will be ready to start your egress install and close the hole before the day is done.
If he blows a chain ($500-1000) it is usually his and he will have it refurbished, plus he carries a spare or two!. A rental place usually charges you for the replacement chain and you get the broken one as a "booby prize"!

Good advice. We're fine with the window install, but cutting through limestore is way out of my league. Mainly, I was curious if it could be cut.Thanks.********************************************************

Limestone cuts easily with a diamond blade. Tumbles limestone floor tiles are very popular here, and cutting them is no problem.
