I have a customer who purchased a 48” Onyx sink/counter unit, and he wants me to install it on a 42” base cabinet, between two walls. Any tips on the best method to cut this thing would be very helpful.

Is your customer an architect? I can't think of any other explanation as to why someone would buy a 48" countertop to fit into a 42" space.
Anyway, try cutting it with a diamond blade.

*Can you take it back to the source and have them recut it? Or take it to another stone supplier and pay them to do it? Always better to buy someone else's experience for something like this. If not, use a wet diamond blade and set up a really good guide fence. Triple check the measurements. The big boys (marble quarries) use a steel wire and an abrasive slurry to cut truck-sized pieces in a few days.Check rental yards for a tile cutting wet diamond saw that has enough depth and width of cut to do the deed. They sell for $1,500 rent for $50-100. Make sure both sides are completely supported as you get near the end of the cut. Or notch each wall 3" :-) -David
