I have a long pitched gravel driveway that also has a rock ledge slope crossing it in spots. The place where the most surface water appears during heavy rain is the top of the slope on the uphill side of the road. Most of the erosion of the driveway starts here. I have a solid plan of trench drains, curtain drains and culverts to handle the downslope problems, but this area is a challenge because the rock slope comes right to the edge of the driveway. There’s no room for a curtain drain or trench drain
The water coming down the slope is not excessive, but it does it’s damage. I want to create a small channel at the edge of the driveway by cutting into the rock. I only need to cut a couple of inches deep and wide. I feel that will be enough to divert the volume of water coming down the slope. The length would probably be around 10 feet to where I can begin a trench drain. Any thoughts on a tool I can rent and handle myself that would accomplish this in a day?

Well, it depends on the type of the rock, and how neat you want to be, but either a concrete saw or some sort of jackhammer would seem to be the only options. Or a pickaxe.
Be sure to wear goggles, regardless.
