Am building rustic house in Jackson Hole, Wy. Have used cypress paneling in two large rooms and am getting conflicting advice re staining/polyurethane/lacquer. Also have a lot of log accent. Suggestions would be appreciated.

I've used some cypress because it is clear, inexpensive, and often has some interesting but subtle grain. Anyway, doesn't the finish depend on what you want to achieve? My current favorite is shellac natural, very easy to apply, nontoxic, and (I think) nice-looking. And FAST.
