Argh……Pulled my bostich roofing nailer out of the dust in my tool cabinet to repair the roof on my shop, I plugged it in and tried to fire. One shot and then a constant stream of air out the exhaust port. This thing hasn’t been used in about four years (since I got smart about roofing and started hiring others), but I had hoped that it would still work. Does anybody have a tip about what is wrong?
Thanks,
Matt

My guess is that you've blown a gasket.
You can buy the whole set of rubber for it. Maybe $20. And it's not too bad to replace. There are pretty good instruction included.
Do the Bostitch guys ever come around your local lumber yard?
They will replace all the rubber inside for nothing. And act like they are happy to do it. Really a great service.
I have an older stapler. The Bostitch guy warned me once that it was about 4 generations out of date. But then he said, "just keep bringing it in everytime I'm here and I'll keep it going for you"
Wait! I have been paying attention around here. This is what I should have said.
That's too bad, it's junk. Send it to me and I'll dispose of it for you.
Aren't you glad you don't use it every day?
Sounds like it didn't like sitting. Put some oil to it and tap it.
It's not resetting, probably because it's dried out inside from sitting. Oil'er up good. They're easy to take apart-just a coupla screws on the top cap, you might want to open it up clean it out, and make sure everything's good and lubed.
