Simple question – Is adding a manual damper to my duct work a DIY job or better left for a professional? I’ve called three HVAC contractors and no one wants to tackle such a small job, as I only need two dampers added.
I have tackled all sorts of different tasks while renovating my home, usually with very good results. But I have yet to take on any heating/cooling issues myself.
What do you guys think?

Why do you want these dampers installed.
is it because of too much air flow, or do you want to just "balance"?
Are they going into the main or at a branch?
what size is involved.? Hube
Normally, if the duct is easily accessed, this is uite easy, even if your a diyer type. The only difficulty will be opening up the duct to install this damper.
I have a 1916 bungalow that is being renovated. There is a section of the home that is unused in the winter as it awaits major renovation. I would like to be able to close a damper to shut off heat to that room on most days. This duct is accessible from the basement and is a branch off the main.
I assume manual dampers are the most efficient way to shut off heat to a particular trunk of duct.
thank you for your response, I was beginning to think this thread was dead.
