Hello all. Often discussions here are about the houses we work on. This is about the last house I work on, my own. I built the house in 95/96. The dual grey shingles went on in Dec 95, just before snow stayed.
Last year I started noticing dark streaks in a few places. I started noticing dark streaks on alot of other dual grey roofs as well. They were 25 year 3 tabs and if memory serves me corrrect the were IKO.
Any Ideas?

It is algae. There have been lots of posts on this. If you search the archives for algae or mold or mildew on roofs you'll find lots to read.
I highly doubt it is algae. I've seen plenty of that and knew that zinc strips is the cure.
These strips almost seem like tar is bleeding through the shingle. I have seen it on a number of light grey roofs.
I hae to take out a ladder and get a real close look.
My lumber yard guy is coming out to have a look.

buy some zinc strips and insert above the streaks. rainwater will disolve a small amount of zinc and kill the fungus.

It might not be algae, but this link help you in your determination. When it stops raining I've got to get up on my roof and take a look too.http://www.inspect-ny.com/roof/Shingle_Algae_Stains.htm
I'll check it out,thanks

Dark Streaks on my Roof
Sounds like it's time to go back to the hairdresser for another dye job, no?
Obama's energy czar would suggest that you paint the shingles white for conservation, but my advice would be to deal with the fungus or get darker shingles.
A picture or two would really come in handy. Streaks are just that, streaks, but are they narrow, broad, is anything hitting the gutters, coming out the drain downpipe?
