i have a darkroom door and there is a gap under the door.
when you open the door the gap gets smaller by 1/2
so
the doorsweep type weatherstip drags baddly on the floor as you open the door.
any other option? need a door bottom gasket that raises as door opens.do not want to put a jamb in – people would trip.
any ideas?

Check out Pemko automatic door bottoms... they drop down to contact the floor or threshold as the door is closed (there's a plunger that contacts the jamb). A #4301 might work, but there are a lot of styles. You can get a catalog from pemko.com
That same company (along with a bunch of others) make brush style sweeps. Simple & inexpensive. Don't worry, we can fix that later!
I thnk that Van Dykes hardware has the bevel lift hinges to replace yours with. You gain about a quarter inch as it opens.
Resource, Conservation Technologies has a few different models of dado in door bottoms that suck down when the door closes and the button hits the jamb.
easiest, of course, is to build the threshold that you don't want for trippage. Don't people pick up their feet in your house?

http://www.mcmaster.com has door sweeps that drop down when the door is closed. But, all the sweeps are for weather, not light. I don't know of any automatic sweep that's intentionally constructed to be light-tight.
