I’m building a balcony over living space and want to waterproof the deck surface. The deck is about 4′ wide, 24′ long and sloped toward 36″ parapet walls on 3 sides. The deck is covered with 3/4″ P.T. plywood. We’ve cut holes at the bottom of the parapet for scuppers to drain the deck surface. I’ve been casting about for the best way to waterproof this thing and have gotten lots of conflicting advice. One product I’ve looked at that looks promising is called DEC-K-ING; it’s a textured 60 mil. PVC membrane (www.globaldecking.com) that is glued to the plywood, lapped up the sides and heat-welded to PVC-covered sheetmetal scuppers.
Anyone have any experience with this product or can suggest another fix?
Thanks,
Roger

I dont know what part of the country you are in, but in southern New Jersey, by far the most popular and trusted option would be to fiberglass the deck surface. The price could range anywhere from $6.50 to $12.50 a square foot, depending on the amount of prep work which would need to be done. The fiberglass would be painted any color you want, and if you desired a sleeper system could be put over top and decking could be applied.
Redfly,
I'm in San Diego area, and this local company has a product I have used and really like. The name is Excellent Coatings, Inc. and the system is the Excel-Coat FS. Here is a link to the relevant page on their site. http://excellentcoatings.com/FSOverview.htm
In brief, the system is a reinforced latex mortar with a fiberglass mat on top, impregnated with acrylic sealer, then topcoated with acrylic traction material and smooth topcoat(s) over that. It is safe, tough, maintainable, and has a 1-hour fire rating. I did my own. Materials cost is about $3 a square foot for the whole system.

Looks pretty slick - I live in the Portland (OR) area, and we get plenty of rain. This looks like it may do the trick. Most of the building supply places around here seem to shy away from even stocking this type of product, and I think it's because of the liability issues. I may give this system a try!
Thanks,
Roger
How's about this?
