I’ve just tore off a existing 20 year old deck, and am going to rebuild using the existing piers. I’m planning on changing the layout a little and wonder if it’s ok to place my new post a little off center on the existing piers. By off center I mean of the edge, but the post will be completely on it. They are 8″ piers, and I have no idea how deep they are.<!—-><!—-> <!—->
In addition what’s your opinion on reusing 20 year old pressure treated lumber for the framing? What criteria would you use to determine its soundness. I’ll be covering it with pressure treated 5/4 so I imagine I’ll need to get another 15 years out of it.<!—-> <!—->

As long as the post is fully on the pier, you'll be ok.
Check the existing post visually first, then poke them with an ice pick to check for soft spots. The place to check most carefully would be around any fastners/bolt holes, and at the base where water could have ponded. And check to top surface to see if water ponded there are rotted the post.
