I am putting a tub/shower combo (the old fashioned, no- whirlpool kind!) In my attic conversion.
(Due to space constraints and wanting the option of both a tub or shower)
I have one plumber/contractor telling me to definitely use an acrylic deck tub.
The other contractor (have not awarded job yet) insists the deck tubs leak when combined
with a shower head. And insists that a cast iron tub is NOT at all too heavy and that his plumber will carry it upstairs no problem.
I don’t know what to believe.
My preference: cast iron, no deck.
Can anyone shed some light on these 2 totally divergent opinions?
thanks so much.

Scout, there isn't a good way to REALLY seal between the lip of a deck tub and the flat surface around the tub. There are ways to make it water-resistant, good enough for the occasional bath or euro-style showering while crouching in the tub, but I would never install a showerhead with that type of tub. Go with the traditional cast-iron apron-front tub, or an acrylic clone, if you want a showerhead.
