Not sure if this is the right section to post this question, but here goes. We are remodeling a twenty year old bathroom. The tub is fine, but we are installing durarock and new tile to replace the shower surround. The old faucet/diverter is a Delta and worked just fine before the renovation. The trim pieces were gold with an ugly acrylic handle. Can I buy a new single handle faucet/diverter set of the same brand (or another brand?) and just install the trim pieces to the existing “guts” already in the wall? I could then get away without using a plumber to solder the new unit in and this would be cheaper than buying individual replacement trim pieces.

Knobs are commonly available at the all of home horror stores and hardware stores.
Not sure about the trim plates, but they might be.
If not check a plumbing supply store.
We have one in Kansas City that while they sell a few new things they are mostly repair parts for all kinds of old and strange items.
Look at a display of valve "innards" at a HW store. They should have some sort of reference sheet/book with pictures of the different units. If there is only one set of replacement "innards" for your style of unit, then you should be able to pull off the swap. Failing that, as was said you can get replacement handles, et al, in most well-equipped hardware stores.
