Just ripped the rock and plaster off a wall in my house, in order to put in a tile surround in a bathroom. Found what I suspectd, that my 1950’s house hase NO insulation. I’ll be laying FG batts in this small section before the durock goes up, but now I’m looking for solutions to insulate the rest of the walls.
It’s 2X4 construction 15″ O/C (not 16″ for some reason).
Sheathing is that soft-fiber Celotex board stuff, with Tyvek then vinyl siding.
I assumed my best bet is to blow in celulose from Inside the house, cutting a hole in each stud bay. I’m concerned however that dense packing this will cause “blow outs” essentially pushing the celotex off the walls. My experience is this stuff is pretty brittle/crumbly.
Shoudl I be concerned? Or will the vinyl essentially hold the Celotex on the wall and keep it from doing this?
