I’m going tomorrow to meet a lady who wants a mantel. She doesn’t really know what she wants. I would like to be able to point her to some resources so she can see what she wants. I’ve done mantels before, but the people always knew what they wanted. Websites, books etc… would be greatly appreciated.

For customers like that, I typically wait to see the house itself. Then suggest a mantle design that ties in with the existing trim.
My local lumber yard deals with Premier Mantles....I`ve got their catalog, but I`ve never ordered a thing from it. Comes in handy when a client wants a visual of the style I will design and install.
Here`s their website:

Thx. That is Usually my approach, but she sounds like she's a young lady with no clue. I know for myself, but just want to be able to show her what is available. thanks for the info-------------------------------

Jacob,
I have just recently "discovered" the image search feature on Google. Its amazing how many different images of almost anything you want are on the internet. I typed in "firplace mantle" and here is what I got:

Maybe you could figure out a way to print some of them, or if your customer has internet access, have them look for themselves.

Went to her house today. And she wants something modern, sleek contemporary. It is for a media room/kid's play room and she wants it to be 'fun'. I'm looking forward to designing it. I'll post it here when it's made.-------------------------------
