The latest issue of JLC (February 2007)has an article about the DeWalt 745 and in it the author states that DeWalt does not recommend running the saw with dado blades.Does anyone know the reason for this? I was thinking of getting this saw but that seems like a major drawback.
Thanks.

sometimes it is for lack of power. I assume that saw has got the power. I had bought and returned the PC portable saw, because it was only rated for a 6" dado. sometimes there is not enough clearance on the arbor for a dado blade, which maybe the the case with that particular model.
I have the Bosch. it is rated for an 8" dado, and and handles it beautifully. There is a trick to mounting a dado blade, which for some reason isn't outlined in the manual. I phoned the tech support line and they were very helpful in describing the process. ( it isn't complicated simply involves switching the washers around, and not using one)
if it says not to run one I would not attempt to try.
The 745, I would consider only as a second saw, to compliment another contractors saw, such as the Bosch, or any of the other top saws. it's portability is attractive, but one has to consider, it's smaller rip capacity, as well as the "no dado".
