I have a 5 year old dewalt 7/14 that has seen its share of abuse. Today I was cutting and the blade stopped rotating. The motor is running but the blade stays put.
I checked the arbor nut, but it was tight. When I tried to lossen the nut, the whole unit inside turns.
Any idea what the problem might be?

Broken arbor? Is it a sidewinder or Worm drive?

Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.
Sounds like broken reduction gear (sidewinder) or worm gear. Your blade's no longer connected to the motor.
Repair may cost more than a new saw.
Check the DW site, I had one they had a recall on. Fixed mine for free.
