I have just 17 days to complete my stair project in the DeWalt contest. Next week I MUST set both stairways…followed by bending up and installing all the curved handrail going from the basement floor…to the main foyer….level curved railing in the foyer connecting to the main stairway…and then on up to the 2nd floor. I have to then layout and drill all this rail for the iron balusters. I do not apply the finish to the stairs…so I am at the mercy of my stainman and painter to get the stairs done in time for me to have 2 full days to install all the iron balusters by the 24th of this month. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am on track…..I will be asking each and everyone here to register to vote once a day from Nov. 25 thru Dec. 15th. Then just vote as often as you can for whatever of the 17 projects you feel deserves first place.
Thats all I ask….and I will have no regrets even if I end up in 17th place. I have been burning the adrenalin off from 5:30 a.m till 5 p.m on this contest and the other stairways I have going.
I do not ever keep a schedule like this…but I am enjoying this so much…I figure I can handle 6 weeks of this.
You can check the progress of all 17 at www.dewalt.com/Top17
Let me put my campaign hat on and promise you all free gas for a year for your vote. ha
Thanks

17th place?? ha, that will be the day. We'll be voting.
Uh, Stan?Don't think you're going to have too much trouble, at least from what I see so far. Not very many ambitious projects (I saw two besides yours). Makes me wish I had entered...You not only have the most ambitious and handsome project, but you are certainly doing the best job documenting it. I looked at all the guys sites and many of them don't even have a single picture posted. I guess a lot of those guys are content just to have the free tools. I would be too, I guess. Stan those stairs are sweet, and the photo reportage is of publishing quality. Your project soars and lifts the spirit, so your audience will likely respond accordingly.
Another thing is that you are giving DeWalt's readers a glimpse of the man you are, what you are passionate about - smart move.
I will be glad to vote on a daily basis.
Let me know where/how the voting takes place.
Pierre- Thanks. Funny you mention my picture quality. My wireless internet connection takes forever to upload and download high resolution pictures. My pictures are the lowest resolution my camera takes....around 140k. I knew I would be uploading lots of pictures and it would take FOREVER had I loaded 1meg pictures or even higher.
I am passionate about life....and I guess that kind of bleeds through. I am looking forward to getting these stairway set into the hole this week.

whooo-ee, just their front page is taking forever for me to load.but I'll be there for yah. just give me time at 34.5 kbs;)

Excellent work Stan. Keep the picture resolution as it is. With the amount you're posting, it would be just too slow for your page to load if you went any higher. Some of the other guys have less pictures than you but their pages take forever to load. Voters will just get impatient when they start posting more pics.
Stan, got logged in over there and spent the afternoon reveling in th e beauty of your work.
but for the life of me, I can't find a place to vote anywhere on that site.

Piffin: You wont be able to vote until around Nov. 25th thru Dec 15th. They will have it reconfigured for voting. I believe they will prompt everyone to register, then each person registered can vote once per day till Dec. 15th.
I will appreciate your vote very much....but please vote for what you think is the best project...and not for me because I post here at Breaktime....ok?
Stan
<I will appreciate your vote very much....but please vote for what you think is the best project...and not for me because I post here at Breaktime....ok?>Stan,Then show us which project is better then yours? ;)Hopefully you'll be able remind us when we can begin to vote.Looks like a couple of guys haven't even started downloading any pics yet.

Sure, but I gotta say - that of the three other ones I've had a chance to look in on so far, they aren't even in the same class as you.you are pretty shameless about promoting how much you like Dewalt tools though! LOL

yeah, those mantle projects put me right to sleep.
imo, the winning project will not only be technically demanding and well executed, but the results must raise the viewer's spirit.
Those of Stans finished stuff sure raised my spirits.

I'm with you Pif. The real contest is for second! The best reward for a job well done is the opportunity to do another.

Beautiful work.
You did a much better job than any of the others in documenting your work.
I didn't like the format of the DeWalt site where I had to click on the picture of the woodworkers face. I got confused where I was. I finally found you though.
Do you want one of us to come over and trim out the door for you? I am sure you have some jigs and scraps around that will get the job done. LOL
It's nice to see a shop with saw dust on the floor. So many pictures in the magazines look too sterile.
I'll be voting for you.

Trim the door?
Nowhere near time for that.
Stan's no dummy - he knows that you trim the doors after he primes the drywall.
Painters are obviously dealing with a backlog.
;)
Thanks everyone for the comments. I like posting many more pictures at a lower resolution when I can hardly tell the difference in seeing details.
I agree....the high resolution pics do try my patience. I havent seen all my competitions pics yet as it takes so long to load.
My favorite is Jim Butz, the architect that is building those two giant trusses in the living room. Those are of a grand scale and they look nice.
I admit I need to take some time trimming those openings! Stuff like that doesnt bother me for some reason on my own place. Maybe its kind of a relief valve not being too obsessive.
But no argument here....I need to trim them out. My wife tells me that all the time.
Well, its crunch time. I have to set these stairways wed. More pics to come!

I've never seen a cordless, battery-powered pinner before. I want one, but i expect i'll have to buy it. <G>
It's really been great to see all the phases so detailed. I'm good at these multiple ID's now, so just tell me when to show up at the polling booth.

Stan, I just clicked through all the pictures of your project, and I'm very impressed. I knew there was a lot of work in one of these stairways, but it isn't until you spend half an hour just looking at the pictures and reading the descriptions that you get a real idea how much work there actually is.
I'm going to put it on my calendar to vote for you.
