There is an article in FHB which is on the web page now, in which a plumber suggests using 2 brass couplings and a 6″ brass nipple to join copper and galvanized pipe, rather than a dielectric union.
My question: if this is a good procedure, why are dielectric couplings made at all?
If the copper-brass-galvanized connection is sound plumbing practice, why use two couplings and a nipple? Why not just use one brass coupling or one brass union?
