Digital Camera Memory Chips

BossHog | Posted in Reader Classified on June 3, 2007 07:58am

Since my old camera got busted I didn’t know what to do with the memory chips. So I thought I’d see if anyone here was interested.

In the attached pic, the chip on the left is obviously 64 MEGS. The upside down chip on the right is 16 MEGS. (I flipped it over so you could see what the connectors looked like)

The chips came out of a Fujifilm brand “Finepix A210”. I don’t know if there’s a style/name for this kind of chip, but it doesn’t fit my new camera.

Will trade for two dozen chocolate chip cookies, antique hand tools, quality time with Pamela Anderson, or whatever else you can dream up that might interest me. Take your best shot.

They're called "XD" cards. If no one offers you Pam, or cookies...put em on Craig'sList, you'll sell em no problem.

Thanks - I figured there was some sort of name for this memory type. I just don't keep up with stuff like that.

What type of chip does your new camera take? there are converters for XD to compact flash, not sure about others. I find the small memory chips useful to keep track of sets of phots for each job.

  3. highfigh | Jun 03, 2007 09:10pm | #4

Right- XD memory. Olympus cameras, specifically the 700 series, use them, too (720, 730, 740, etc). It's higher density than SD but now SD can be found in 1 and 2 MB for less than $60.

  4. DanH | Jun 03, 2007 09:10pm | #5

Yeah, they're xD, used by Fuji and a few others. But, strange as it seems to us old hands who once thought a 10M hard drive was the cat's PJs, 64M is too small for most folks to bother with unless they have an old camera that can't handle the large ones. Currently about the smallest you'll find for sale is 512MB.

Yeah, sell them on Craig's List or whatever -- but don't expect to get a lot.

I never expected much of anything for it, or I wouldn't have offered to trade it for chocolate chip cookies. If someone wanted to haggle, I might actually let it go for ONE dozen chocolate chip cookies...(-:

I have a camera that takes them, but frankly wouldn't bother with a 64, much less a 16.

They are pretty much pointless to all but maybe a kid with a kids camera that takes them. You can buy 1GB and 2GB cards for under $20 these days.Post them for free on Craigslist cause you'll probably not sell them.JT

        2. rasconc | Jun 04, 2007 07:48pm | #20

They are small, probably the ones most cameras came with at that time.  There is an upside to small cards though that no one mentioned.  They will download quicker, at least with the software I have used.

I have some 1gb and they take quite a while to download even if you tell it to only do the ones that are new since last download.  It still has to look to see if a photo is in the file.  I usually stick in one of the lesser cards for small jobs like someone else said.

            Hey Ron,

Go ahead with the other offer. I was just bustin' your chops with the cookies.

BUT... if you really want some cookies, I know the cook.<G>

I can arrange for a care package or the recipe. It's a butter recipe and they are soft cookies. Just right for us older guys. I usually wolf down a half dozen along with a tall glass of cold milk.

Thanks for the offer of the care package. But God knows I don't NEED to eat any more cookies. (-:So ZEEYA - I guess the chips are yours. Shoot me your Smail address through the board or at [email protected] and I'll get ya set up.

Think they're too old.  These fit my Olympus, but I bought a 1 GB chip for $35 at Office Depot a couple of weeks ago.  695 pics...

  7. seeyou | Jun 04, 2007 02:45am | #11

Ron, you can sell them easily on Ebay. I've also sold several dead digital cameras for a pretty good price there. They buy them for parts.

Well, I just figured that depending on the pics that were on them... Either they might be pretty valuable, or you might be able to convince people to pay you not to send them the chips.;o)
