That's a threaded hole for anchoring a ground wire.
Otherwise, it needs a clearance hole?
I have a handy box with the ground wire screwed into the back. The only way I could flush-mount the box was by drilling a recess for the part of the grounding screw that stuck out the back.

Yeah, the dimple provides clearance for the tip of the screw and also elevates the connection slightly to make it easier to attach the wires.
