I posted some new pics with comments in the New Home Texas Style thread last Thursday (7/27), and expected some replys this AM (7/31).
Have I been blackballed? Is there a conspiracy? Should I continue?
Sorry the thread deteriorated to spanish lessons and other stuff, but we are back on track, except for rain…lots of rain. We should be digging beams, placing steel and getting ready to pour this week…… I hope…my foundation sub has been delayed on other projects because of the rains and I am sure I will suffer with more delays.

Most people post in the gallery because of a desire to share, and not with an expectation of response or acclaim. Generally the "market" responds to useful or entertaining information. fwiw, the pictures of the inspection/framing crew weren't useful or entertaining to me and make me less inclined to go back. And learn how to embed pictures...having to click each attachment takes too long, especially when I don't know how irrelevant it will be.
People pay attention to threads like Mike's house be/c he makes sure he provides something valuable each time he posts. From every picture someone can learn something...they aren't just "hey, look at me and what I'm doing" posts. There's nothing wrong with a "look at me" post, as long as you don't get discouraged if people don't look.
You asked...my opinion, and maybe no one else sees it that way.
Thanks for the feedback...I tried to enbed pics but failed.
I was thinking the pics were infomative, if nothing else they show details of how things are done in TX...perhaps you already know.
"hey, look at me and what I'm doing"
Does it really come off this way? I have read so many differerent ways of doing things around the coutry that I thought the info regading foundation and piers would be useful or at least informative.
The thread experienced death for a while because of a delay created by adding piers, some digital camera problems and rain.
I appreciate the reponses, and that I am being informative. Business is good, I do not need the acclaim.
Sorry your weren't entertained by the off color crew and inspector pics.
Again, thanks and I'll try the inmbedding thing again when I have more pics. I can understand how it helps.
Mike gave me insturctions: open pic / rt click / Copy / back / Edit / Paste...after doing so the paste button was inactive?
I also think you and Boss are right..if my intentions are to give and share....no need to have expectations. My bad........but it does takes lots of time.

>Does it really come off this way?Not that thread...this one saying you're discouraged more people aren't looking at it. Kinda like Boss said, post be/c you wanna share or because you like talking, not because you have an expectation of the rest of us. I'm almost always wrong if I expect anything of my posts--best responses from those I expected least of, and vica versa. Simple solution, do what you like and have no expectations.

Now, to imbed or not to imbed....that is the question. Of course I have got to figure it out first.
Write your post.
Attach photos.
Post.
Wait
Read post; open one photo at a time and then copy, go to edit post, and then past in the post.
Repeat as often as needed.[email protected]
It's Never Too Late To Become What You Might Have Been
Paste again turned out to be inactive in the browser, but found I could rt click on the post after copy / edit and the paste button is there in the rt click menu.
Thanks you very much......EP
if you embedd pictures watch the file size, us folks on dial have to be real interested to want to wait.conundrem in that since I'm on dial up I don't like embedded pictures(you can't win)

You can win...embed thumbnails. Prospero doesn't make it particularly easy, but it does work.
RU out in the country? Have you looked at satillite? We are using http://www.wildblue.net, reasonable cost and effective.
nope, not in the country.but I'm not paying the crunchin' cable company $50/mo for something that should only cost $15and the crunchin' phone company doesn't have dsl for me

Bob, the taxpayers will share the burden that you want to avoid because they can't pay their personnel a living wage...
Sorry, wrong thread.

Ouch!!
Wasn't meant to be hurtful...just didn't have the time for edits to be more delicate. I think tx knew what I meant and took it in the spirit intended.
it's still there, just has 11 more recent postings ahead of it, and got moved down the list and off the screen

Maybe my discouraged response (blackballed and conspiracy) was some carry over from the old dazes when I was regularly paraniod....of course most of that was chemically induced.

The forum wasn't working well over the weekend - Thread weren't getting marked as read.
Also - It's hard to say what may catch someone's fancy and/or make them want to post. There may be a lot of people intersted in the thread, but they just aren't asking questions.
I don't get responses to everything I've posted in the "Boogerin' with Boss" thread but I keep posting anyway. But that's just because I like talking.
(-:
Thanks, I had a busy weekend....no time for BT.
No questions...maybe I am explaining things well.
It is encouraging to find that people are interested, but if I continue I'll roll with the punches. Maybe I have grown to be too sensitive in my old age.
Trying the imbedding thing again with this post.
Tried the imbed thing but still....the paste button is inactive.
Pic is Bev and I at the Wharton Freedom Fest...we are the couple on the right...I am in the purple tennis shoesView Image.............hey, look at me and what I am doing
Sorry Jen, I'll get back to the questionaire.

Dang, you're even uglier 'n I imagined.(-:I imbed pics frequently with this line:<IMG src="">You just have to paste the URL for the pic inbetween the quote marks. You can thumbnail pics if you post 'em at http://imagevenue.com/ (Use the text from the LAST block after you upload it) But imagevenue.com has text ads for all sorts of sites, so some may not like that. You can always go over to the sandbox and try some practice posts until you get the technique figured out.
A gossip is someone with a great sense of rumor.
Don't get in a tizzy , we still love ya.
But hey now that you got the embedded pictures down, what's with the purple sneakers?
I can't tell that they are purple.
what's with the purple sneakers?
I can't tell that they are purple.
They is purple.
I grew up wearing Converse All Stars and now wear them in different colors....they seem to be popular with the kids, but that is not my reason. I just like them.
$8.00 in the 60s and now about $35.00. I sometimes have to order off the internet to get certain colors.
I was just funnin, but for real it could be that I'm getting to be a old dog also and can't see worth a purple.
Don't get discouraged man, I post pictures all the time of frames I recently finish and get a handful of replies. Then it usually turns into a BS fest. Not a big deal at all.
I just post them to show people whats going on in this area. If I get responses so be it, if not diesel pig and I figure out something to talk about. As a matter of fact I posted one of a house I just about finished siding and got one reply about how fun Azek was to work with.
Keep on keepin on man. What's wrong with me? I could ask you the exact same thing.
Thanks...I have wondered if I should have started "Discouraged", but have learned some good stuff even from the "seemingly" negative post.
I'll "Keep on Truckin'" (refer to old guy wearin Converse Tennis Shoes).
I am about ready to start my own "dicouraged" thread. Things around here are eating me up. It happensWhat's wrong with me? I could ask you the exact same thing.
"I have wondered if I should have started "Discouraged""
You just started it this morning, and it already has 30 responses. I'd say ya done O.K.
Whether a man winds up with a nest egg, or a goose egg, depends a lot on the kind of chick he marries.
Dude! If you're gonna use my pictures - atleast give me a byline credit or sumpin! On second thought, that pic isn't an exemplar of framing, focus, and lighting...so maybe don't give me a byline. At any rate, I'm glad to see you liked the pics I took. Course that one with the fam and you knawing (how do you spell knawing?) that turkey drumstick is pretty funny...
And, btw, people do watch your thread, we just don't always comment. My BT fixes at work would only become that much longer if I take the time to post....
Miss ya'll,
Jen
P.S. Did you like my ya'll? I'm practincing. I saw a real live cowboy up here in WI last weekend. You better line the drive with poolboys and cowboys for my next trip down!
I caught you on BT....I'm tellinnnnnnn.
Cowboys and Poolboys....how about a poolboy / cowboy combo?
And, btw, people do watch your thread
yea, that has got me worreid, especially if I keep gettin compared to the legendary guru......Mike Smith. No offense Mike.
OK, you got y'all down now use "fixin" in a sentence.
aha! You forgot that I used 'fixin' properly while I was down there!
Tex, a couple of comments for you.
1. I like embedded pics. Of course, I have broadband but it's much easier to take in all the information than having to open up a bunch of attachments. I feel for the posters in the sticks who can't get (or don't want to pay for) broadband but I think that's the price to pay to have a good pictorial thread.
2. Post pictures and explanation of the interesting details. I'm not really inclined to look at a picture of a form crew working from 75 feet away. I can see that every day if I like. I do want to see the interesting details of the way your pier & beam foundations work.
In all the areas that I've worked, the standard is a conventional footer with CMU or concrete foundation walls and wood frame over a crawl space. Sometimes you see slab on grade but that's no more than a slab with a turned down footer. You are doing something that I may never get the chance to do. I want to see the nitty gritty of that kind of stuff.
Mike is maintaining an excellent thread (I think it may be ecplipsing "Boogerin' with Blue" IMHO)- take notes from the master. He will show one shot of Roy running siding on a sidewall with one window (a relatively bland subject) but four pics to detail the lead flashing around the chimney. The details are where it's at.
3. Time. You TX thread has been up for 1.5 months. So far, we've seen some plans and a few shots of clearing land and a form crew working. To compare it with "Adverse Conditions", in the first month and a half, we got from here:View Image
to here:

A big difference. In order to motivate me to come back day after day, you have to be progressing. I know what it's like to get hung up starting a project so this is not criticism, just letting you know what it takes to keep me interested.
Please don't take this post as a personal shot, I really am interested to see the different construction techniques that you employ in your area.

No offense taken.
Your comments help. I am a 1st yr BTer (rookie) and I know I've done some stupid stuff so far, and will continue to make some mistakes.
We were all done except foundation engineering, and the engineer suggested piers....I ran the upgrade and added foundation failure insurance (becasue of the piers) by the HO and they wanted to do it.
Change order, very slow engineer and redraw....six weeks? I am fortunate to be back in action....and now rain delays...more rain today.
Our official commencement date was July 11, 2006.

Its always amazed me what draws interrest . Ive been around long enough to know that some subjects will draw and some wont. I still get surprized alot.
Ive started stupid threads and they have got over 100 responses in 48 hrs.
Dan T got on to me about starting two threads on buying vehicles but it was different subject . I think they both got 100 a piece .
The Katrina thread got over 600.
Look at Dinos thread .
Ive got serious and posted what I thought was a meaningful thread and sometimes they get nothing . Like the repo picks . Well , it got some comment but not what I expected . Turn it around on nearly the same subject and weve had some good rental threads . Stans stair threads were always favotites to me and they drew the whole church for Sunday meeting .
Anyway;
Being here is learning and it never stops . When ever we hit the post button on a thread we have opened a subject for review. We gotta take it as it comes what ever it is and sometimes its not pretty. Sometimes people just dont hit the reply button.
Some key pointers ;
They love to come here and learn. If they get the chance they will fill up a thread . RE ; Dinos tool threads . Sorry they were deleted. Mikes thread has been mentioned and it shows close ups and yea he does a great job. But that job he is doing takes a lot of time and effort .
Cal operates a photo thread and its already over my head. In the beginning it was wild life which held my interrest and now its like flowers. I didnt come on to do that but thats just me so I catch it every once and a while . They took some awsome pics from a truck side mirror and some sunsets and sunrises that were also cool but its moved on . Next month it might be wimmins <G>
Gunner can get bored and run a silly thread and get over a 100 quick. They are usually funny and entertaining . We come here to laugh and get amused. He rarely disapoints. Although its over nothing sometimes.
When ever Buck is not lazy and feels like typing he can make some funny posts as well.
Frenchy can make some great threads if hes not too busy just by handing out information and then the threads just flow . Although the guys can give him a rough time its like a duck on water and hes somewhere else typing away . He has some of the best spirit of negative and positive feed back.
People like Jeralds threads as they are imfomative but they get deep pretty fast . He likes to throw the bait out and play the old switch method with his back up. He doesnt have a lot of time so he might just leave and let a thread die .
I think we are quick at giving someone help if that is the need. The greater the need the more response. Thats probably the majarioty of the threads.
We like news when it concerns us and some times if its odd .
We like some funny photos in the mix too from time to time .
Some subjects that have a brand of interrest draws a certain crowd. Wimmin, pets , kids, tools , etc have followings.
Boogerin with Blue is an all time favorite and hes not bashful to make a thread on an idea. So things like ideas will get some interrest depending on the subject.
The main thing is that it has to gain the interrest of the readers and hold it . Politics can certainly do that with a select crowd. Fest postings do it too .
If there is not an interrest , just dust your pants and get out of the arena for theres another cowboy up. Its not personal to you. It just didnt grab the readers interrest.
It can get pretty boring around here if people dont pick some good topics .That goes for us all not singleing you out.
Side bar ; Ive been visiting a forum that gets a number count on reader reviews and before you open the thread it gives the number of replys . That is important information some times . If a subject sounds good it might have 500 veiws but no responses . Open it and read it and its clear that it didnt contain content for replies. We just got hooked on the title . Ive had fun with titles only to be disapointed with my own content . We are a bunch of critics here too! <G> Ive also bummed the title and had good content and had it live. The title is the first key but its hollow with out back up .

to reinterate Mooneys last thought, lack of feedback/response is not an indication that the thread isn't getting views - maybe you've shown things clearly enough that there aren't questions - do something controversial and see what happens -
"there's enough for everyone"
Thanks Moon.
I think we are quick at giving someone help if that is the need. The greater the need the more response. Thats probably the majarioty of the threads.
Yep, remenber I started a thread about a cartoon series entitiled "BT Super Friends". I have seen that BTers are generaly good hearted and I have tried to do my share at helping others. I do read some for which I have answers and many times discover that good answers are already in place. I knew when I titled a thread "Discouraged", I'd get lots of responses. Even the negative replys are with good intentions. I can be humble and take correction.
Thanks for your time. I think BT is great.
Some of my OP was (as you may I tend to do) toungue in cheek.
I truly would appreciate and value comments regarding the New Home Texas style as it will give me different perspectives.
