Hey.
I have about had it with this trade.
Gave up my own shop to go work for a medium size GC/CM firm about two years ago. Got stuck on all the spoiled rich ladies jobs. Between burnout on spoiled rich broads and a real management deficit, got scared and left for a carpentry sub.
This is a strictly commercial outfit, no homeowners, big jobs.
For some reason they don’t let the foremen order materials at this outfit. I’ve had three day of finding little picker jobs for 3 other men – one of the supposed carps was easy to find tasks for, just get him to fix all his screw-ups! — I finally will get material on Monday. Get this- by a project manager/general super. What a colossal waste of his time.
I guess my rant here is that it is not about the craft anymore, just money, the constant second-guessing is tiresome, and hey, why aren’t you done yet?
Boy oh boy am I frustrated. Thinking of selling all my tools and buying a hot dog cart. What an opportunity for all the wanna-bes out there.
