Somebody posted a thread a while ago about the top rack not cleaning properly….Here’s my followup….
Our dishwasher hasn’t been cleaning well lately. Stuff in the top rack doesn’t get cleaned because the upper spray arms don’t get water.
I read that the masticator/pump assembly can get clogged with junk, causing a lack of pressure for the upper spray arms, so I decided to go in and have a look. I couldn’t believe the nasty stuff that was growing inside. Have a look at the pics if you like…. not for the feint of heart.
….and we rinse our dishes before putting them in.
Cleaning the junk helped a lot; dishes are now properly cleaned; well, I might be using the term “properly” a bit loosely. I’m thinking about going back to hand washing after seeing all that nastiness.
BTW….this is an almost top-of-the-line Kitchenaid (Whirlpool) model circa 2008. Cost around $1K. Your nastiness may vary.
