I’m installing a dishwasher on the opposite wall from my kitchen sink, so the dishwasher will have it’s own drain and water lines. No problem there.
However, I’m wondering if it’s possible to place the drain pipe directly behind the dishwisher. This would make for a neat installation, but I’m not sure if it’s possible given the space limitations. I can also place the pipe in a separate cabinet, which is what I’d originally planned. Would this be better anyway?
So, is it is possible to install the 1 1/2 drain line behind the dishwasher? If so, what height should the pipe be from the floor?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Need more info ---is your DW a gravity drain or forced drain?
Where is your air gap going?
How are you attaching your DW to the drain?
Thanks for the responses, plumbbill and yesmaam!I was thinking of attaching the diswasher drain hose to drain pipe with the approiate PVC fittings. Is there a better attachement method.I'm also not sure about the gravity feed issue. I'll need to do some research on that. For what it's worth, I'm looking dishwashers in the $400 range.I'd like to conceal the air gap if possible, but I can mount it on the counter too. (Maybe I should add a sink, since I've got everything to do it already, cold water supply line is really close too) I wonder if there's an NEC or local requirement about water near electric stoves. Thanks again!

Depends a lot on the dishwasher that you buy. Some will have room for that size of pipe at the rear, some won't. (Bosch comes to mind as one that won't.) Most installations that are next to a sink, have the flexible drain line going into the sink cabinet, and connecting to the drains there.
Unless you're the lead dog, the view just never changes.
