Dishwasher showdown bosch vs kitchenaid
My dishwasher has become posessed by the devil, and rattles groans shrieks and makes scary noises, and does not clean the dishes.
I have narrowed down my replacement choices to either bosch or kitchenaid. Have heard good things about them both, and seen good reviews elsewhere for the bosch.
Here is the big differences
Bosch
In line heater, (higher temp with less electricity)
Smaller, quiter motor
no hard food disposer, just removable filter
Kitchen Aid
Gigantic tub
Hard food disposer
I have heard (from bosch owners) that hard food disposers can be a washers downfall, if they trap something and it jams, it can destroy the washer (or reduce its service life) where as with the bosch, there is just a trap that must be cleaned monthly
I want a new dishwasher yesterday, so I am looking for input.

You may want to check over on CooksTalk. Glenys raves about Miele (but I think she's biased) and there was a very detailed thread about choices.
EGGGGZZZZ TERMINATE, EGGGGZZZ TERMINATE!! Daleks/Dr Who
hard food disposers -- hey, let's get GREEEN here!
One can always scrape dishes off and throw the scraps out to the birds/critters.
Thats what we do before putting stuff into the appliance DW and our 'bottom of the line' GE DW lasted 30 years with no failure, replaced only 'cause it looked like the seals were getting ready to leak.
Replaced with identical model (must be good for the same model to be available 30 years later, little different switch is all). $2 worth of rock wool aroung the tub, a $1 carved piece of closed cell polyethelene foam added in the door, and the $170 unit is as quiet as a $400 unit.
BTW - you can tell you are a redneck if all the food scraps get thrown out the back door and they are all gone within an hour! Too many wild cats for there to have been any mice/rats in the lst 15 years (except for those tree rats with the bushy tails)
problem solved... local sears had a floor model kitchenaid, no manual....
how much for this unit without a manual?
314.
they are mailing the manual. getting out of my school pants to put it in right now.
how do I get the insulation inside the door ?
I have also deadened the sound on cheaper dishwashers by adding scraps of the self sticking roofing material (ice block is one name) anywhere i could stick it that wouldn't get in the way... a few posts up someone said that their machine came with foam seals on the side... that seems worth try'n to add also... never thought about it,,, but added to my things to try list... I've installed more than a few $197 whatever was on sale dishwashers and really never had a problem with any of them... just basic units... but they work... I'm about to purchase/ install 20 and looking for the next lowes sale so i can use my 12mo same as cash and use my 10% card...

On the GE models anyway, there are 4 ss screws inside the door. Take these out and the door front panel comes off. You need to carve out spaces in a 2" thick or a couple of 1" thick pieces of insulation to fit around the mechanisms and controls, then just put it back together.
Un-obtainium now, but what really worked well were the lead coated fiber aircraft sound deadening insulation blankets. Boeing surplus used to sell them but they quit selling anything with lead (and any other litigation susceptible type material) about 10 years ago.
FWIW, when I seew a really old dishwasher, it's almost always a KitchenAid.
I don't know if they still make them to the same quality, though
Old Kitchenaids were made by Hobart. They are now part of Whirlpool. Our old one never died either; just was too noisy and used too much water.
Bosch is ok. I would be happy with one and would take it over a Kitchenaid. Work well and seem reliable.
I really like not having a heating element in the bottom Asko and most domestics).
But my Miele is just amazing. Quiet, works well, spacious and no problems. I would only buy this brand, even though it is more expensive. Bosch is 2nd choice.
Wish I could say the same for the Fisher Paykel Dishdrawers. Too easy to break. Nice idea, but I wouldn't buy one again.
...karl, who has bought far too many dishwashers
I like them both.
I have a bosch now super quiet & just dump the basket every once in a while.
High end kitchen aids are made by whirlpool---low end ones oh heck I can't remember it was a brand I wasn't familiar with.
If money was no object my dishwasher would be a Hobart
Check out Feb. issue of Consumer Reports. Bosch & Kitchenaid about the same, but there is a Kenmore that is the best buy.
Advocate
Kenmore that is the best buy
Did it say who is manufacturing the Kenmore?
I think they are buying from Bosch. I've installed both, and they seem almost exactly the same. This is all pure conjecture on my part.--------------------------
It's only satisfying if you eat it.
In an effort to avoid maytag, I have become quite good at spotting who makes which dish washer. It is all about the soap loading part, and maytag seems to have their hooks into jennaire as well as a few other brands, some of the high end kenmores are made by bosch, and can be spotted by the lack of heating element and catch all basket in the bottom.
I have a bunch of friends who have been burned with kenmore washing machines, so I will give the kitchenaid a try.... the price was too good, and my 3.5 year old is still careening around the house!
Go with the one that suits your needs. we chose Bosch because of water heating, stainless outside(mistake, also looks dirty no matter how hard you try to clean it). We like the handle to put a dish towel on.
Really funky leveling device, two legs up front, one in the back, middle.
This machine(Bosch) likes t slide back in the opening. Toe kick doesn't want to line up with the existing cabinets too well. Plus, they dishes never really dried that well.
Next time, we will be considering a KitchenAide. I like the stainless interiors, but I don't remember is KitchenAide has stainless interiors. They probably do.
Side note. Over the past 20+ years, I have seen more Bosch dish washers installed in my kitchen jobs than probably all other brands combined.

WD40 on your SS exterior will make all fingerprints disappear. The cleaning guy in our building allways made the SS elevator doors look new with it - no fingerprints

Installed a Bosch last fall in my home - outstanding appliance: very quiet; easy installation, especially the under body channel for supply line; stainless tub and most importantly the rack system. All brand name dw's will clean dishes about the same. For me it comes down to the racks which Bosch has designed thoughtfully. It also has a soft rubber gasket on the front panel which rides against cabinet styles, all but totally eliminating sound transmission. Looks good in black.

I installed the Bosch about a year ago. cost a little over a grand. I put a cab face over it to blend into the kitchen. Sometimes I actually forget which cab its in its so quite. I actually have to put my ear up to iut before I open it to see if its still on.
It doesn't wash dishes like any other I've ever had. Its absolutly amazing!! I'd swear an entire army crawls outta the walls of the thing and washes all my dishes. I've put casserole dishes in there I couldnt clean by hand well enough and when it came out of there my mind was blown it was so clean. No idea how it does that.
Two sponges up for the Bosch!! Now I know why these suckers cost so much.

dang, I paid just over 5 bills for mine - what'd you get, high def?
Didn't you find bosch had the installer in mind when they thought about installation; I was amazed at how cooperative that sucker was to slide in.
Quiet---my daughter sits next to der bosch while on cell - a true decibel test.

I think its called "integrated". All the controls are out of site. they're in the top of the door inside it. And yeh, installation was a breeze. who ever here said that all dishwashers cleaned alike hasn't tried mine/ Simply amazing! And thats not something I'd particularly think about. I too thought they all cleaned alike till I experianced this one. I do hate my new Subzero fridge though...Can't win em all.

Just installed a Bosch in my new kitchen, I bought the cheapest model no special programs or pushbuttons, just liked the unit because it had a handle you could hang a dishtowel on - simply on-off style operation. It is a great unit, so quiet and very well built
Kitchen aid has gotten very cheap - they are ridin' on their reputation which will soon be gone
Good luck in the search -just my 2 cents
Bosch DW are quiet and wash well, but don't dry. Had one put in my own house, then had to have it ripped out and put in the top KitchenAid. Not as quiet, washes only OK, but it does dry everything well.
Had a customer recently get a hassle from Asko. Didn't work right from the beginning, had a foul odor, etc. Factory guy asked them what detergent they use, then told HO they couldn't use detergent pills in it, even though DW came with a bunch of pills in the box from the factory! Are these people for real? Glad I wasn't involved in that job! I used to think Asko was tops.
I had several customers severely dissatisfied with Miele. Same complaint always: mediocre performance at rip-off price. I never recommended them, but now I refuse to put them in altogether. Don't need the hassle.
We've actually had very good luck installing GE. Not outstanding in any one area, but no real weaknesses either and no problems ever.

We have a Bosch (great machine) we bought from Sears along with all the other appliances, we also bought a service contract. We noticed that it did not dry the dishes that well, so when the Sears repairman came out for tha annual clean/adjustment we asked him about drying.
He said that you have to use the liquid drying aid, so we bought a bottle, tried it and he was right, amazing what a difference it makes.
Yeah, we always use the drying agent on ALL dishwashers. Did not help the Bosch. All their fancy "condensing technology" doesn't do squat. The Bosch just doesn't have a heater in the bottom. No they don't have a better mousetrap. The distributor admitted they take a lot of them back.
