Saw this AP story about Disney building a new ‘House of the Future’
Tiny version http://tinyurl.com/34jaup
Seems like its going to be pumped full of gadgets from HP and Microsoft. No mention if they are doing anything ‘futuristic’ with the actual house like showcasing high quality insulation or high efficency mechanical systems?
Seems like a huge wasted oppertunity to educate the masses…
Article says that Taylor Morrison is building the home. Anyone here know anyone there or anyone working on the place? Or if they are going to showcase any ‘futuristic’ building ideas?

Well they already have shown us their vision of the town of the future. Neither the town or the house had anything interesting to say about how we might live.
Yes exactly,
This could be a great oppertunity to show the masses how houses can be built intelligently....probably all they are going to do is fill it full of electronic stuff...

At car shows even the stodgy big three manage to design innovative experimental models - even if they never make it to production. You would think Disney could have been a bit more daring. But then when you think about it, it's probably not in Disney's best interests to stray too far from the cozy nostalgia they sell so successfully.
Disney sold out a LONG time ago. It's all about the money.
Looks pretty "typical" to me....ridiculous amount of square footage featuring lots of trendy gadgets and paying no attention to quality or efficiency. What do you bet it's full of gazillion-gallon-per-minute "shower experiences", too?
Everyone else is right - a wasted opportunity. Do they think we can all afford all of this stuff??
