I imagine there are some strong opinions on this, but is it practical to apply my own closed cell spray foam? I’ve got the bedroom opened up and want to spray all the rafter bays (it’s a dormer bedroom). Can I buy foam and do it myself? I’m an experienced carpenter but don’t know if that’s any help. Thanks all.

I'm not going to claim to be an expert foam installer, but what I can tell you is here in Canada, you can't just install foam you need a lic. From what I was seeing when the installer was doing our last job there is quite a bit to it. One thing he was constantly doing was adjusting the temperature of the tank, idealy they would be at a constant temp to keep all of the product in the tank at the same temp. Depending on the day the outsides of the tank can be warmer or colder than the center, as the two tanks will both have this situation it changes the way the foam cures. At one point he was spraying styrofoam pellets, one tank was to hot. There were also two installers, one on the tanks, one with the gun. The kits I've seen so far have been open cell or 1/2 pound insulatation. There could be a world of difference in the process where you are vs here, but from my understanding this was how it worked . Good luck
