Too bad.
Pity to lose anyone at this time.
We're all diy's in one way or another.
Bye.
And now...........
at least I think this just happened with the recent site 'maintainance"..............
No profile, so you could have had your background info in there (like originally) and no one would be able to find it now-so you are right...........
except for the almost true (The change to Prospero as the oldest starting point) "member since", which means only longevity.
Wonder what we'll hear or not about this action?
I see what you mean....my profile's empty too. Just as well.... it showed my age. ;-)
But what I really meant by "We're all diy" is that none of us stick entirely to our one singular trade all the time.
The framer fixes his truck.
The finish carp hangs the odd bit of drywall.
The roofer augers out his toilet.
The plumber installs the odd branch circuit.
Sure, there are lots of complete noob DIYers, but to leave a forum just because of DIY questions seems a bit short sighted IMO.
It's a touchy subject.
Some believe if you stay and keep at it you've got a screw loose somewhere.
Others might think those that go just give up without much effort.
Reasons are thrown around right and left.
Then there's of course the fact that this place was quite a tight knit group, even with all the bich'n, moaning, complaining, arguing and all the rest that went with it. So when your buddies pick up and scram-what do you think others will do?
Me, I'm just too damn dumb and stupid. I'll just hang around, if I can give some help or information to anyone, all the better. What really burns me is the way this place was turned upside down by Taunton. Then they come back in those early days and spill the BS about how this thing will evolve-just need to fine tune the damn thing.
Well, just take a look at the "fixes' thus far-They changed the POST button. That's all I can remember because the list that used to be over there on the left was deleted-probably because most of those listed were an exageration at best.
But I digress.
>>>What really burns me is
>>>What really burns me is the way this place was turned upside down by Taunton.
Roger that.
Dat's OK Man
since the website developers are DIYing this place as they go also.
you know what...........
I think I'll just quit charging and then I can really fit in.
Joyce probably won't go for it. But hell, I could always take in laundry.
So,
How can I get this stubborn cranberry stain out of my pants?
nope
I'm doing it for money.
Bring the pants by, I'll take care of it.
15 bucks.
No Pleat?
Belt sander.
Shotgun, you DIY pant cleaner!
Shotgun's OK, but you would probably have to take the pants off first.
Would need to mask and encapsulate to satisfy the EPA re lead contamination
Ieeee!
belt sander would work, but this stain is right in groping territorry! Maybe the multimaster. That's probably Cal's secret weapon.
Try a pressure washer first.
website developers are DIYing this place as they go also
lol, jes got a new modem, some other sites download at 5 meg, this place must have a hamster powered server?
BTW, dos the Taunton family still run the outfit, or is it some conglomerate now??
no idea
but neither do they.
Performance sure is like a dislocated distant corporation with no connection to what is happening!
Performance is pretty good most of the time -- no worse than many other sites -- so long as you stay away from the dreaded "Recent Replies" button.
These performance issues are confusing............
For some it sucks. No matter, dialup, dsl, cable, maybe sattelite, IE, Firefox..............
For some it don't-same situations.
Why be that?
Does it have anything to do with bias?
Video of servers ...
.
>>>Now it should be noted
>>>Now it should be noted that I have Flashblock installed to block flash ads -- without that things would likely be a fair amount slower. (The other site doesn't run Flash ads.)
Ooooooo.... that sounds tasty. Didn't know about that.
Thx.
Recently............
I noticed that the thread about Rotted and Replacing extended rafter tails loaded slower. Same thing with the farming and picture blog. Nothing to do with the adds on the screen. These two threads always take a bit longer. The pictures included in the rafter thread are HUGE. Boss's thread has the pdf' links, but I don't think that does it. It is a huge thead, many pages and well over 3000 posts.
Yeah, images will load slower, and how they choose to embed the images makes a difference as to whether you see the page before or after the images load.
Hey Cal, I had a lot of trouble with slow page loads here for a while. I remember changing the number of posts per page to a low number. I had it set to all once, and one of those old 3000 post threads would actually just time out, and never load until I changed it back to what I have now (20?).
So as an experiment, I was going to change the number of posts per page to a higher number to see what happens. I don't think you can change that number anymore, I couldn't find the option. So the complainers may be stuck with too many posts per page forever. I duh know.
Are you sure? Change Number of Posts is up there.
Right below the original post.
I just changed to 10 and then back to 30. It worked, made this a 3 page thread and then back again.
Uhhh, thanks.
I thought it was in my profile under preferences or some such. Maybe that's the ticket to some people having problems with speed.
some people having problems with speed...........
that might be it.
I'm also using Flat instead of threaded if that were to make a difference.
The only positive to getting piss'd off over the slow load is that you give up b/4 you try to navigate and experience such speed makers as being led to the TOP of the damn page EVERYTIME you post a reply.
IK'm using threaded, I have no problems with speed. Also seeing 10 posts per page.

Paul, got a nasty big bloodstain left on the living room carpet from Thanksgiving.
Need advice.
Expecting the Christmas gathering to go much smoother.

The shotgun put the stain there in the first place, shotgun will get it back out again.
Of course, you will have to follow current remediation guidelines, or use steel shot.
