I am interested in changing the color of a bathroom formica counter from blue to white. Is it possible to paint it without chipping?

Cricket:
I haven't seen it painted although I've heard of people attempting it.
Better to Laminate right over the current laminate (formica), as long as it is adhering well. This is done all the time in commercial -retail.
OK

Cricket is a women's moniker, right? So, I'll go easy: how cheap are you? Wouldn't new cost the same or less than what you are considering? Cripes, it's only FORMICA!
*Yes, you can paint it if 1) You clean it well 2)Scuff it slightly with 100 grit +- sandpaper 3) prime with a good primer like Bullseye 1-2-3 and 4) Put a coat or two of high quality semi-gloss or epoxy paint on. You might get 2-5 years out of it depending on how you prepared it before and baby it after. Laminate is cheap unless you have a lot of plumbing to change around, and then the cabinet looks kind of shabby, and you hate to put a new one over that old floor don't you, and . . .
*...and after that 2-5 years the cabinets and floor will make the counter look old and shabby. So, really, it is a great way to make the rest of the kitchen look better. :-}Rich Beckman
*Seen it done. Looked like crap. didnt last.
*I've seen a couple of jobs the "profesional" refinishers who specealize in this did. I am not impressed. For what they charge have a new laminate skin installed. It'll look better & laast longer.
