The new house is taking shape and we’re looking for opinions on door hardware, interior and exterior. What brands do you recommend or more importantly not recommend. It’s easy to walk the isle at the BORG, or spin the rack my supplier…but I’m looking for every day perspectives.
Thanks in advance,
Rip

I've had cheap tube latches wear out after 15 years or so, mainly on entry or high traffic doors, so I stay clear of anything cheaper than Schlage (their stuff seems ok). I've had great customer service from both Schlage and Baldwin, missing part?- they send you a replacement. Worn out part?- they send you a replacement. Well worth the extra $ when purchasing. Baldwin still has nice heavy parts, but they're now made in China. I'm not sure you could find any hardware not made there these days, but both these companies still put out a quality product and back it up.
I would go with shlage for middle of the road, decent quality and their lifetime warrantee.
my house is ten years old and I'm starting to replace the Master locksets we installed
I'll second Baldwin. Used them in my own home.
Solid, well made, durable, quality finish, style selection.
Pricey, but worth it. I've worked with other hardware manufacturers in or above their price range......seems most of the costs are for the name or design.
