Ok i scored 30 8ft alum clad full view french doors… which i have a use for… wood inside and clad outside… nice units… but they take (as in already cut for) 4 hinges per door and they are mortised about 1/2″ deep… managed to find 7 of these hinges… but that still leaves me a few short even if I build the jams with one door fixed… (need 60 hinges if i use all the doors with one side fixed)
I’ve never used these, i’m sure they adjust but… someone clue me in… are they good, bad, whatever? what is the proper name? who makes em? these look to be 4″ is this standard? anything to plan for when building the jams?
thanks in advance for any info & help

I think they are generally specific to the brand of door. Do you know who the manufacturer is? I would think you could buy hinges from their service department. I've never seen one at a standard builders' hardware store.

just did a search... pretty interesting... the ones i saw were made by Hoppe... with 4 to a door only 2 are alike... only one adjust up & down while 2 adjust in & out and the 4th just seems to go with the flow... ones i saw were not cheap... don't know if they are all like this ... if more than one co makes em ect... but unless i want to fill the 1/2" DEEP mortise guess i could machine some alum spacers and use long screws...
but looks like i need to find some hinges... the 7 i have i have no clue in which position they fit... I do know i have an old set of doors in the warehouse that have em... so there is 8 more (but they are polished brass) now i'm only 45 short and looks like the hinge cost will far surpass the door price...

the doors very well could have been mortised out to take all of the hinges so that the jamb didn't have to be....
ie... the door was mortised and the jamb was surfaced mounted....
or the hinges were bar room door style for a double swing....

WOW!!! What a Ride!Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
Pony, I have hung Pozzi (Jeld Wen) doors that had those adjustable hinges. I don't remember the configuration however . I think whoever mentioned the deep mortise and then no mortise on the jamb is on to the right track.

Try a search for Truth Hardware in Owatonna, MN. I think they make the adjustable hinges for Marvin. Those might work for ya.

Last time I saw a deep mortise like that, both leaves were meant to sit in it.
One leaf screwed to the door, the other surface mounts to the jamb! No kidding. While it looked so wrong, it worked just fine...buic
