I have a house-to-garage door question. I have a kitchen door that accesses the garage, with the door swinging into the kitchen, as would be expected. I’m looking to replace the door, and was thinking it’d be more convenient if the door swung out into the garage. It seems there’d be issues with the door lock if its set up that way, but maybe some doors/locks are designed for that sort of situation? Would appreciate any guidance on this. Thanks,

More important is the fact that this door would most likely be a fire rated door as it goes to an attached garage. Contact your local building authority as the ability to change this door!
Thanks for replying.
There are externally rated doors available that are outswing - it isn't the locks on them but the hinges - locks become moot if you leave the hinges out there for access.
Good point. Thanks for your response.
Any door between a garage and house should be a fire rated door ( 1 hour rating ) even if the building dept. doesn't require it in your area, just for your own safety and peace of mind. The door swinging into the garage is fine, any decent home center or locksmith can give you the correct lockset, it's not a big deal. As to the hinges being accessable to someone on the garage side of the door, just ask for NRP hinges ( non- removable pins ) and you won't compromise the security of the door at all. A good quality lock, NRP hinges, and a proper, careful installation of the door and you'll be as safe and comfortable as anyone! Good luck.....BUIC
