Help, I could use advice on installing some Azek on the gable end door entrance. Part of the problem how or what is the best way of weather stripping the trim around the door. I have vinyl siding, and the current trim traps the water water behind it as it has a 3/4″ gap between the back of the trim and the front of the siding. The whole set up just seems to go against conventional building.
Any help would be appreciated, KaiserRoo

I don't quite understand, can you take a picture and post?
Will do, I just need my wife to show me how to get it into the computer. That's after I find the digital camera.

Pics will help. Vinyl is very difficult to weatherize properly. I will never use it on my house.

Don't go putting something down until you try it.
I have installed in excess of 10000 squares in my life and it all looks good, how does that cedar look in 25 years if you don't paint it?
Every post he writes is putting something/somebody down. Your right if the house is watertight before hand and flashed correctly vinyl is fine. In this area its by far the siding of choice, Ive put a lot on also and I always think to myself that its designed to leak so waterproof accordingly.
Pictures of this situation would get the answer he needs though, hard to follow question
He is rather overboard. Did you see the argument with dinosaur, who I believe is one of the most reasonable on the board?
I did, after that I kind of felt like it was the last straw, hes the kind that runs his yap just to try and make himself feel better. I come here hoping to learn things I don't get to experience around here, not to read a bunch of bs some blowhard wants to say, that guy really annoys me
He3 just wantsa to fight over every little thing. He needs to go into the tavern<G>
yer talking about frenchy right?

I thought my attitude was pretty bad, but in the 5 or 6 years since I got on the internet I found out I'm just not that big of an a$$.
My attitude sucked until people that post on here got used to me, I guess.
He was beligerent from the start. He knows everything and we are all idiots.
Take that vinyl down, and then tell me how things look behind it. I thought this was an advice board. "Don't weatherize your siding" sounds like bad advice to me. You think a really big piece of woven plastic that says "Tyvek" is all the protection you need? Its people like you that cost this industry millions.
I think I misunderstood the audience when I signed up for this website. I thought that I would be speaking to professionals sharing professional ideas that work. I was way off.

I have and nothing unexpected, now what?
If vinyl is applied correctly it is an effective covering and longlasting cover for a house. You can tell me how great cedar or cedar shingles look, and I would agree. The problem is the marketplace demands a product that is effective and with very little maintenance.
That was fast. The whole house? Low maintenance siding is the same as self-cleaning oven.......it doesn't exist.

I hear alot of "if"s coming from this thread. You want to know howmany houses I've seen that were properly flashed, caulked, and weatherized per the various building product manufacturers specifications? Zero. But its because your not the one installing them, right? Maybe you spend too much time on the computer and not enough time out there protecting us from the arcflashes of the world.
I didn't sign up to this board to argue with anybody.

You my friend are a fool. I am on the computor so much because I am disabled due to an auto accident 2 years ago.
I have never sold vinyl siding as self cleaning, as low on maintenance, yes. I would do so again, based
on my experience working with the product.
I don't know why you signed up on this board, but I know your attitude could use an adjustment. Just because you don't like vinyl siding, don't make overbroad statements like you do.
No one is trying to fight with you. We tend to give new people consideration until they prove they don't desearve it. This is not JLC where you would have been flamed big time.
Don't you love a guy who wants to know why you are on the computer so much? I started work at 6 this morning and finished at four. The DW doesn't get home tonight till six so if I'm on the computer now I'm a dead beat because I'm not working and it's not late at night? I'd bet arcflash is on a bunch of websites and just likes to mouth off.
It appears to be so. People have different reasons for being on the computor at different times. I know Dovetail was out of jobs and was killing time on here this year. Sometimes the answer is as simple as different time zones.
This thread keeps me out of trouble and my dw know where and what I am doing, less stress>G<
I'll bet arcflash works ten hours a day, sometimes five or six days a week. I'm doing tile this weekend, and redoing three dormers maybe next weekend. What are you doing? Still on the computer?

Why are you working on weekends, don't you have a life?
Anyone can claim anything. It's when they say stupid, outrageous things that proves their state of mind (or lack thereof).
You really need to give it a rest. You are coming off as an ignorant, loudmouth, know-it-all. I've noticed quite a few of your posts and they are all negative, and looking to argue. Frammer 52 is an extremely knowledgeable guy who is unable to work anymore, does that make you better because you say you "work ten hours a day", you need to learn respect.
Most people who talk like you are full of Sh!t, anyways. I'm young, confident and very good at what I do, you might be also but I know respect and you don't. You wouldn't last an hour working with me because it seems like all you do is run your mouth and complain, that's the way you come off. Learn some respect especially with guys like frammer 52 and dinosaur, they are the real deal and don't need to be talked to like that from some blowhard like you, who's never done anything, just said you did.
We all like a good productive argument but yours aren't you should shut your mouth and open your ears,or eyes.
Calling me a fool is fighting words. I made no off the wall comment about vinyl siding. It is dangerous stuff that rarely is installed right. Rarely meand almost never. J-channel is not flashing.
you just opened mouth and inserted foot, dangerous???
You don't weatherize the vinyl.
You make sure whatever housewrap you use ( tar paper, Tyvek, whatever) is flashed properly to shed water.
IMO, the vinyl is there to protect the housewrap, and make things look pretty.
Sorry about the lack of photos. Although i do have some on my desktop I can't seem to get it in this post. Needless to say this makes me feel rather stupid. I can send via regular e-mail.

Well click on the name above the post to who you want to send them, and you should find email address.
Are you just trying to replace the trim inside of the existing siding/ j-mold ?
Was the siding original to the house, or is covering some other exterior material?
Try a liTtle better verbal picture of what you have and then what you want to accomplish. We will keep asking questions untill someone understands.
Then, bingo, you'll get amazingly clear solutions. from this group.
