Hello all – I have a question.
My front entry consists of a steel double door. Because of the house design and soil conditions, the door racks seasonally.
Here’s what happens: the floorplan of the house looks like the letter “H” with the front entry located in the thin horizontal part of the “H”. The home is in Dallas, TX where most of the soil is expansive clay. This clay shrinks as it dries and swells as it gets wet. (That’s why we water our foundations) As the seasons change, one side of the house rises (or settles) relative to the other side, racking the door in the process.
Question: does anyone know if some kind of hardware exists that would allow for periodic jamb adjustments within the rough opening? I’m thinking of something that would replace shims and be permanently installed, but allow for adjustment.
