Anyone run across a downdraft vent system that is suitable for installation with an oven and cooktop (as opposed to a cooktop only)? GE has one that can have the blower remotely mounted which mighttttttt give me enough clearance but it’s awfully tight..
Thanks!

If it's an existing cab, this won't be much help. Recently built a new island cab for a gas range. Built 30" deep to accomodate a cooktop style pop-up vent. Because of vent plenum, the pop-up is about four inches from back of range, midway between range and countertop edge Vented the plenum directly out the bottom. Sorry no pics. But I can fill in details if needed.

Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.
Unfortunately it is... and there's a door that will conflict if I increase the counter depth by more than a couple inches. But thanks for the reply!

Hey Paul,
DD's barely make it inside of a 24" deep base with the cooktop in front of them. It's as tight as a frogs azz.
Your gonna have to pull out the magic wand!

So what is in between the back of the range and the pop up??
And also, isn't the back of the range console visible or did you use a slide in flange over counter range?
Really queer. If ya got an island, a cooktop goes in there not a range!
Paul, do I need to come up there a smack someone for you?? You get the strangest requests!
Those downdrafts can be a crab. Almost always end up over a floor joist too. Be prepared.

Engineered stone countertop all around. Took some figuring, but it's what the customer wanted. The sheet metal guy was willing and so was I after explaining the peculiarity of the install to client. To make it even more interesting, we were working to get vent, gas and power in original footprint due to radiant gypcrete floor.

Range came in two models, one for use with close coupled down vent and one trimmed for overhead (I assume) that had a louvered finish panel. We used the latter.

Converting to gas in island, this kitchen has an electric wall oven and micro, the oven in the new range and another electric range in the garage! A lot of work for the end result, but it's what she wanted. Husband, recognizing the inevitable engineering hurdles, told me "don't let your wife talk you into this".
Lousy sketch shows view of island countertop. Really wish I'd taken some photos, but don't really want to offer it to someone else :) It scared the poo out of me designing this from manufacturers white sheets, but it really looked pretty good and functions well... so I'm told by homeowner.

Honest to God Eric... You know what the problem is? People that know me know I have a reputation for problem solving so I get these beezarre requests. Concrete counters, funky downdraft issues, mud bed showers with windows in them ;)
