I am looking for some kind of holster for a drill/driver (Panasonic 15.6v).
I am looking at Bucket Boss. I like slots for bits, but concerned about the how much it will hang down my leg and bounce around as I climb on a ladder (and that is the complaint of some of the reviews).
The other is the Monser Hook.
Simple, won’t get in the way, but I don’t know that I believe that it will securely hold the drill.

Bill, I have tried many options, leather by AWP I think, fabric from Harbor freight ( 6 bucks, what the hell) and hooks of all flavors..
Nuthing is "just right"..I am sticking with the six dollar HF deal for the time being on one of my belts, my newest belt has large enuf pockets to cradle the BATTERY end, so when I holster a drill it don't get triggered and wind up wrapping the holster around the bit.
Other than that, I lost a makita from a hook once, coulda did some damage to a car..nevr again. But you know, I am on roof most of the time.

"so when I holster a drill it don't get triggered"I try to set the trigger to off so this won't happen, but it is a bit of a pain

Reminds me of the time I heard this funny buzzing noise coming from my truck-mounted side toolbox:
I was just sure I had a rattlesnake in there, opened the lid very carefully , to find it was my cordless drill! LOL
Which was better than the time that the gun oil cap came off in there, and the time that....Well, that's another thread.
Carry on.The heck, you say?
I`ve had a few of the holsters.....can`t stand any of `em. Big, cumbersome.....flip, tip, ugh. The drill never stays put. I might actually have one lieing around....if you`d like, I`ll mail it off to you.
I`ve got a hook, similar to the "Monster Hook"......called the "Bigg Lugg". Love it. Use it for everything....cordless drill, impact driver, pnuematic guns. Works great. Never had anything fall off of it.
Less than ten bucks if I recall correctly.

I had that hook, and hated it. It kept catching me on things and bending out the hook.
Now I have a "ball hook" that I got from HD. It came with two bungie straps that you wrap around the handle of the tool - at one end is a ball like on a tarp tie. The ball fits into the hook that fits on your belt.
I haven't dropped anything from it yet.Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA

Sounds like you might need two hands to free the tool from the bungie, no?

No no, the bungie just hold the ball tight to the tool. The ball itself is what fits into a small slot in the belt hook.
Imaging you monster hook, with the hook really tiny. The 3/4" ball would attach to that smaller hook.Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA

I don't think these replies are going through (because of Taunton's system changeover), but I'll try anyway.
Like you, I have a 15.6 Panasonic impact driver.
My problem is I don't have room on my tool belt unless I wear the holster over my crotch, or drop one of the bags from the belt.
I do have a Big Lugg hook on the belt, but mostly, I think it is more of a nuisance than a help.
My coworker has a 12 volt Panasonic driver, and it fits nicely into one of the pouches on my belt.
So my solution was to buy one, which seems to have the same power/speed as the 15.6, and it is considerably lighter and smaller -- which helps a lot when you're going up and down ladders with it.

I had a holster but traded it fro the monster hook. Never dropped the drill (Dewalt 14.4) yet. It could depend on the balance of your gun, and where you place the hook on your belt.
I have the hook on the back right (over the wallet pocket) and it keeeps the gun and the hook from hanging up as I move around. Only time I lost the gun was sittting on the floor, it pushed up and off.
If you find something good let us know. I just bought the same drill and I'm still "accessorizing" it.
Minor vent: Why the #@%$ don't the guys that make cases for these things leave a little extra space in the case for bits? Wouldn't be too hard to leave space where a drill index could fit, and they could even make extra $$$ by selling the index separately.
happy?
I got a little foam "stick on" at the hardware store to hold 4 bits, but is has worn and torn.Whether is is a $29.95 Coleman through the over $200 units I think that Panasonic is the only one that does not have a holder for at least 2 bits.I guess I will get one of the hooks. It should be usefull for other things also.It would be nice if someone make a locking loop that you could put across the top of the hook. Only use it when climbing and the like, but leave it open while "working".Here is what Paul is talking about.http://tinyurl.com/d788lAnd you can get a package of extra bunges. The problem that I see with it is that it is not a "put down and catch" holder, that you have to "work" to make sure that the ball is caught.
Yeah, I've used the foam rubber stickies for bits for several years, but they don't hold too well. The Panasonic does have storage for one bit behind the battery, but I'm not so much thinking about that as simply having space for a dozen or so bits inside the case -- so that for simple jobs I don't need to drag along extra stuff.I've seen the bungie system at HD, I think. May give it a try eventually, but I'm interested in anything that someone thinks is better.

Bill,
I have the same drill and use the hook on it.
It works well if you are standing, kneeling, climbing etc.---safe on ladders
But ---as sphere pointed out---once you climb onto the roof and start sitting----or "variations" of sitting------- it is as not secure.

Hey Dan------
I have the Panosonic---there is just enough room in the case to keep an " Altoids" tin with some screw driver bits, hex driver bits, small drill bits etc.--- I can even keep some small zip lock bags of zip screws next to the Altoids tin.
Stephen
Yeah, but what if you don't like Altoids . . . or you do?

I've got a bunch of Altoids tins - particularly the lemon and sour apple. I'm happy to send them to anyone giving me an address. My dentist would be happier if I sent you the full ones, but you will have to settle for empty.
Dan,
I don't like 'em---but I get the tins as needed from my wife or kids.

I had to special order a left-handed holster, because, well you know. It felt cool dropping my DeWalt into it, but it also made it easy to pop out when I was crouching on scaffolding up about 35 feet. The drill bounced once on the way down and still runs after I twisted the chuck to settle the gears. I've used the Big Lugg for about five years now instead, and it can be bent to fit either an impact driver or some other cordless. I just have to be careful about making sure the hook has grabbed around the battery correctly before I let go of the drill.
And the Big Lugg on my left hip is a real show-stopper when it gets caught on my seatbelt/shoulder strap when I get out of my van.

I've tried a couple and have found the dewalt holster to be quite good. The drill is well balanced in this one, not trying to twist the holster around. It stays in the holster quite well and can be clipped closed with a quick release type strap for when you want to ensure that it doesn't fall.
Holsters -Watched a pair of commercial electricans at work. Their holsters were round back on the butt (pick a cheek).Bought a pair of elec. bags because they had a built-in holster for my drill in the parts bag. It works. The solution is to build the holster into the bag - but that's rare. The ToolBear
