What’s the proper (safest) way to drill a granite counter top for the 2 little screws to mount the dish washer to the underside of a granite counter top? I think it is 3 CM granite. What are the best kind of screws to use?
Attached are a few fairly useless pictures.
Sorry if this is an FAQ….

is there any way to run something to the cabs on the left & right that will take the screws and avoid drilling the granite?
Hummm... That could work... :-)
I just happen to have a 30" piece of extruded aluminum on hand (retrieved from the trash can just now) that I found last night while cleaning out... The profile is about 7/16" x 1" x 30". Looks like something left over from a shower door install... Maybe I could bend a tab on either end so it looks like this: ]
My fabricator uses diamond bits, and epoxies threaded brass inserts into the holes. For me, the best way is to let them do it, since I don't wanna be responsible for busting $2K worth of granite. ;-(

Everything fits, until you put glue on it.
My granite guys use 2 methods for anchoring.
Both employ drilling appropriate sized holes with a regular hammer drill - not even a rotary hammer - just a Dewalt or Milwaukee hammer drill (mechanic's choice).
If they will be mixing some of the seaming resin, they use a "glue-in" threaded insert similar to the sink mounts.
If they are not going to be mixing resin, they use a very short plastic anchor - like a drywall anchor - and an appropriate length sheet metal screw.
Keep in mind the screws just function as a "pin" to keep the DW from rocking forward - doesn't take much.

most of the higher end dish washers have the option of running the screws in the adjoining cabinets instead of the counter so check for some plug covers on the side pillars of the dw

I'll check that. It is a SS Bosch DW of 2005 vintage.... Know anything about those?
Older bosch's than that were side mount available. I'm remembering a plug but you might find the mounting hole behind the gasket.A Great Place for Information, Comraderie, and a Sucker Punch.

You can attach it to your cabinets on either side.

Here is another take on this problem.
Most dishwashers have enough travel in the leveling legs to drop the whole thing down 3/4". So what I have done is order an extra filler strip, cut it down to 24" and attach it horizontally in the top of the dishwasher opening with a few pocket screws. This gives me a good 3/4" of wood to bite into, and not have to mess with the stone at all.
I think it dresses it up a bit too.
