Hi All,
I’m considering buying a piece of property for a residence in NW Connecticut. My biggest concern is getting a driveway up to the building site.
I’m in touch with a local surveyor and engineering firm, as well as excavators. But I’d like to go into conversations as informed as possible.
The terrain consists of Charlton–Chatfield complex (very rocky) and Canton and Charlton (extremely stony) soil types. The overall length of the driveway would be 1,750 feet (about 1/3 of a mile). The steepest section would be a 12% grade, which complies with town code.
I’ve read the forums and the ‘All About Driveways’ article. But can anyone shed light on materials, construction techniques, ballpark costs, and anything else I should watch out for that are specific to the North East and these rocky soil types?
Thanks in advance.
