I am a little unfamiliar with the cost of hanging and finishing drywall.
Can any one out there give me a ball park idea, materials and labor.

well in order for someone to even give you a ballpark idea you should tell where you live, if any ceilings are over 8ft if you want 1/2 inch or 5/8 drywall.
Sorry about that. 1/2 material walls are 7'6'' in height, a basement in Louisville KY.
Thanks WmP
Mornin' Louisville, I am in Lexington...Lowes has 1/2 8' for 'bout 6.00 a board..labor is variable ..depends on How much sq. ft. total job..and other conditions.
Thanks for the reply SPHERE. The job will take about 100 4x8 sheets or 3200 square feet. As far as the conditions go all I can say is that it is a nice warm and dry area. I would imagine that the prices in Lexington would be comparable to those here in Louisville?
Material price is the same can't really speculate on labor, but should be close..we have all the big $ horse palaces here..I don't do SR for others..just my own, if ya catch my drift.
"a basement in Louisville KY"
As in virtually all matters concernng real estate......it's location....location........location. And I don't mean Louisville. I mean basment and ease ro difficulty of access to such. That's bound to effect price per square ft. in the final analysis. Would if I were doing it anyway.
Knowledge is power, but only if applied in a timely fashion.
Since nobody else will, a ball park price would be 80 cents to a dollar a square foot. This would include materials and labor.
around here ... smaller "coupla guy's" companies charge about .80 to .90 ft sq to stock/hang/finish ...
larger compaines charge $1.00 for the same deal ...
not a real big difference in the quality ... both have good and bad.
I just paid 2 great finisher to come in and re-finish a job I got screwed on ... they touched up about 3200ft sq with lotsa corners ... all outside corners bullnose ... at $200/day per men ... took 2 days .... $800 more bucks outta my pocket. But money well spent.

call a Drywall supplier in your area and see if they can help you find someone.
Drywall supplied, hung and taped starting at about 50 bucks a board."One measurement is worth a thousand expert opinions"
wow ...
that's $1.56 ft sq.
must be a high rent area.

he'd starve in Ky. at that price..
in my area its around 40 cents a sqft to hang and finish a standard 8ft wall. Add. charge for anything taller. Finish is a lvl 3 or 4 or inbetween. If the boom truck cant deliver or spread the rock around there is another add. charge. If you have excessive outlets or boxes sometimes there is a small add charge as well.
1200sq ft house 2 bedroom 2 bath 5 closet, kit, LR, utility room. I bought all material and hung all walls and ceiling. $1000 to tape and sand labor
nuthing but happy thought.
$50.00 a board, is that a 8' or a 12' sheet?
Thats per 32sq ft (4x8)
I just got a proposal back for another job I am putting together and he sounded cheap. About $1.20 per sq ft. That included all material, delivered, taped w/three coats ready for paint. I don't know if I will use him because I don't have any referrences from him. Average here from my experience for someone who is really good is more like $1.50+ I'm talking a good job, not a slap it up and thank you mam job. I hate having to touch things up after they leave. Costs me more money that way. "One measurement is worth a thousand expert opinions"
You know how it goes, cheap always cost more.
I'm in SE Wisconsin, & here new construction cost about $1.50 a sq. ft.
I do remodeling & charge $1.50 to $2.00 a sq. + materials.
Your numbers are on par with our area, NY LI. Most remodels get a minimum of $50 a board (4x8) New construction is always a bit less expensive. Then there are the broken english eliment that I could get for a lot less who do a good job, but I wont hire them. "One measurement is worth a thousand expert opinions"
We've been having problems with the element you talk of, alot of broken sheets & their prices keep going down. I will never do new construction, not that I'm a full time rocker. For me, remodeling is were its at.

PJE,
Just curious. what types of jobs you like to take/specialize in?
Jon
Hi Jon.
My two favorite things are basement rec-rooms/living space & kitchen remodels.
I really enjoy designing projects & problem solving. Lately I've been getting more call for building cabinets, Large built ins for TVs & equipment. I have one now for a large in home office, large desk/work station, a lot of cabinets. With the cabinet jobs there is a lot of designing & creativity.
I also have a retirement home that I do work for, a lot of everything. I've worked there for the last 8 years, remodeling things that I remodeled that I built that I remodeled, it doesn't end.
All in all I get interesting projects & make good living.

One question ; Why did you call him and take up his time ?
Tim Mooney
Tim,
Are you telling me every sub you call you use?"One measurement is worth a thousand expert opinions"
Woodrow , this post was in January.
You called the man out to bid . He turned in a bid that was the cheapest bid .
You then decide he isnt "good enough".
Why did you call him out in the first place and waste his time ? If I would have asked for a bid it would have meant more than one thing . First off it means I trust him to bid my job. If I call people and they dont have a shot at my work , I dont belong as a contractor. I have respect for all the trades and the people serving them . Its part of the brotherhood.
Did you ever think that since you dont have any evidence of what you are talking about , he might have "had " to have the work? If we want to bid cheaper or higher than normal its our business . Ive taken a lot of bids and found they run different most of the time. Ive given a lot of bids and they are not priced the same . Too many reasons to list . I came back to edit this post to try my best to make a complete answer for what its worth .
If I wanted the work for a reason other than the job it self , I might bid cheap. Are you influential in some way in your community? A perfect example is a church , preacher , deacon , mayor ,city council, school board, college director, or any position that holds the attention of lots of people or the "right" people. I know a painter that works exclusively for a church and its members. Nuff said.

My goodness! Don't take things so personal. It was just a simple question that I already knew the answer to. Relax and enjoy the day. "One measurement is worth a thousand expert opinions"
I just answered your question to me ;
" Are you telling me every sub you call you use?"
You already knew the answer though before you asked me to respond. There seems to be a pattern with you here .
Why did you ask it then and why havent you answered my original question?
Which was : Why did you waste his time ?
Tim Mooney
I didnt take it personal . I just responded to what you posted :
