Hi everyone, kinda of new to the board but here is the situation — I live in a house that is about 10 years old and having problems w/ nail poppers (yes they used nails) and some taping joints that are breaking. How can I remedy these problems, should I pull the nail and then put a screw in its place or away from it?
What about the taping — I see areas where its gonna start falling down, do I have to retape the entire joint or just put more compound down? Looking for suggestions
Thanks

the nail pops can be fixed by removing the nail and placing a screw about an inch above and below the old nail hole, then patch over it with compound, sand, prime, paint.
The taping question I'll leave to a real drywall guy.

any place your tape is loose, you have to pull it off and retape with new..
try a setting compound like Durabond instead of joint compound , which is a drying compound

Is this problem localized to one area/room or is it much bigger? Ceilings, walls, both? Just wondering about additional details and/or history available to your situation in case this is the tip of the iceburg, so to speak (though I doubt it).

Also what kind of texture, if any do you have on the walls?

konopam-- the nail pops can be easily fixed just by driving a second drywall nail right next to the first one, so that the head of the new nail catches the head of the first one and holds it in. Since the wood should be dry, there should be no further problems with nail pops. I've used this method with great success. The loose tape will have to be removed and retaped, like Mike Smith said. Hope this helps.
I have also had success setting the offending nail and putting a screw in tight against the nail head. This avoids the nail pulling disturbance.
