I recently bought a 1922 home with plaster walls and ceilings over wood lath and am patching the surfaces. Three rooms have ceilings in poor condition and I am thinking of installing drywall over the plaster ceilings. I will install new crown so the edges of the ceiling don’t need to be finished. My plan is to screw the drywall through the plaster, and to find the studs with a studfinder and/or test holes. The new drywall would be finished smooth. I am a little worried about this process for attaching the drywall over plaster. Any thoughts on how to best do this or what I need to anticipate?
