i recently bought a house and it has an archway…over the top left of the archway is a hairline crack approximately 6 -8 inches that runs from the top of the archway to the ceiling. i have tried everything to fix it. first i just put some spackle on it…but it showed through about a week later..then i put some tape and triple coated it with spackle and now 2 days later….crack is reappearing through the paint…..what can i do or am i doing wrong here

i also noticed that at the edge of my tape there is a small crack beginning at the bottom....does this mean not enough of a coating of mud??
First, is it sheetrock or plaster?
Second, you need to do is stabilize the whatever the wall material is. If the plaster or rock is moving, you'll never stop the crack. Sometimes all it need is a few nails or screws. Sometimes you need to remove the finish wall material, and determine what the underlying framing problem is.
That said, there is a spray product for covering cracks that a friend used successfully for some hairline cracks. You spray it on the crack, then spackle over it.
If you go to a good paint store, they'll probably have it.
