we have verizon DSL.
for the last coupla weeks it’d go in and out.
seemed to me like the modem might be shutting off when it got hot from running for a while … all the lighst would still be on … but the internet connection would shut down.
We ended up talking to our next door neighbor … and found out they had the same problem. They put a call in to get a service guy out.
We’d called verizon direct once or twice a week for the last coupla weeks … and we’d run thru the whole test and reprogram deal .. and it’s work for a while … then act up again.
So … we found out from them … their modem was bad, only a couple months old vs our which is a couple years old. I then suspected the connection at the pole since our houses both come off the same pole. The neighbor said the tech checked that and said it was definitely their modem.
Before we called for a house call, I started to notice the light on the power strip fade in and out … in total darkness I could see it blinking. We run the phone line as well as the power supply thru this surge protector.
Last weekend I unwired it all … eliminated the surge protector / power strip … and we haven’t had one problem!
I’m now thinking since they were running new lines up on the main street … they might have somehow causes a power surge … which cooked his modem and my surge protector.
Have no idea … just weird for two unrelated computors to go bad at the same time. Ours is about 4 years old … theirs is less than 6 months old. They fried a modem and we appearantly .. so far looks like … fried a power strip. Not a complete fry … but it definitely looks to be the problem.
Just something to look at when your connection goes down.

Hmmm, Very interesting, my job site puter is having the same modem problem.
Have done the Verizon route to no avail in solving whats wrong.
So far I haven't checked the surge protector but checked everything downstream from it.
Thank for the post.
