Hello, All. It’s me, Biscuit, sneaking over from Cooks Talk. I was wondering if I could get the answer to a question and/or some advice.
I am re-doing my half-bath. The plan involves stripping wall paper (bleh!), repairing the walls, new sink, toilet, moldings, base boards, doors, vent fan – everything pretty much. It’s the girliest room I’ve ever seen – I hate it.
Anyway – my dilema. The floor – it’s these contractor-grade 6×6 greyish white tiles with concrete-gray grout. The grout lines are pretty large, about 1/4 inch, so the grout is not something you overlook when looking at the floor.
Now, under other circumstances, I would just rip the floor out and put in a new one. BUT – well, it’s in perfect condition. No chips, cracks, and the grout is in perfect shape. It’s just – unattractive.
So – I’m toying with the idea of working with the floor in my new scheme, but was wondering – is there some way to dye or color the exisiting grout to make it less “concrete” looking and maybe freshen the floor up some? I know you can color grout when you are mixing it together to apply it to a new floor, but wasn’t sure if you could dye grout that is already installed.
I am really not interested in ripping out a floor that is in excellent condition at the moment. I have two other bathrooms that truly NEED new tile floors and they will be getting them this year. It doesn’t make real sense to rip this one out just because of cosmetic reasons.
Can anyone help? Thanks!
I’m not mean – you’re just a sissy.

There are grout colorants.

I have seen a color at HD/Lowes. Tile suppliers will have a larger selection.
If you have a Tileshop in your area start there.
Note the comments about cleaning before applying.
You can also use a grout saw and remove the existing grout and regrount.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Biscuit,
The grout colorant from AquaMix is an excellent product.

Ah! Thank you, both of you, for the information.
Frankly, I wasn't even sure if it was possible, and if it was possible, if it was durable enough to be worth the effort. I knew you all would know!
Thanks. I may give it a try. I have a fairly steady hand with a paint brush and am good at tiny details like that. I think I could manage this.
Thanks again!I'm not mean - you're just a sissy.
