Does eastern white pine siding need to be preserved (painted, stained)? I’ve got a new house with weatherboard siding. My research has been contradictory – some places I see that it’s not durable, elsewhere I see it weathers well, was original lumber (inside and out) in many, many Colonial era buildings.
I’m painting the siding, but am worried that may not get all done before winter – problem? What about if it’s already been up for a year?
Thanks.

It won't destroy itself, but you need paint on it. If it weathers this year, just sand it a little before priming again next year
