EARMUFFS with mp3 jack?
Anyone make a set of earmuffs that you can plug your mp3 player into?
I’ve got a set over earbuds for use when jack hammering and this does not work well.
Looked at the Peltor radio muffs. If I could plug my own music in, along with the radio option, it would work.

I don't use the Mp3 but Stereo radio is excellent.
How is the tuner on those? I have the old yellow work tunes, and the tunning is very touchy. Just curious if they have gotten any better.
Tuning is still touchy, either you're on it or looking for it. I think alot of it has to do with the fact you can't see the dial while tuning.
Maybe someday they'll make one with a digital search button.
Would be nice to have a cellphone overide or Bluetooth built into the headset.

Sirus and some commo channels would work just fine. Crew Talk frequency to override Our Program Now in Progress. Peltor has them. $$$$$

For Bluetooth I guess one of these would fit the bill:http://www.sordin.se/EN/produkter.asp?mId=102For some reason they haven't got them on the US site, but since they are new it's probably just a matter of time.Having used both the Peltor Comtacs and Sordins tactical version I must say I prefered the way the Sordins compress and cut off sound.
I noticed too in web searches that most of this type of hearing protection is found on European websites. The aircraft headgear is very cool and very expensive. The radio set I have cost me less than $100.
If and whemn they break down I'll consider a replacement.
Bluetooth may be a thing of the past by then...

Glad to see they include a jack. Could not find a mention of it when I goggled.

I just got the peltor muffs with a aux jack and a radio. It fits my ears better than the elvex radio muffs that broke last week (after 5 years of use). I tried out the aux jack and it seems to work fine. The odd aspect is that if you turn up the volume on the muffs while using the aux jack the radio is still on. You have to turn the volume all the way down on the muffs and use the mp3 players volume control

I use Koss plugs earbuds- they're in-ear phones, and I've replaced their foam pad with earmax earplug foam. They do a great job of keeping outside noise out. If I need more sound protection, a set of peltors can go over the top comfortably.

Make magazine did a how-to on how to convert a pair of safety earmuffs into stereo headphones.
Basicly, take a pair of regular lightweight headphones and glue them inside the safety muffs. Ta-Da!

Bruce,
Bought a set of the Shure E2 sound isolating in-ear earphones. Will have to look for the Peltor Race Tunes (vs. Work Tunes) rig.
What? No Pods at work? Look around. Adam was backfeeding Bob Marley to the battered boom box today.
Tried the Shure E2s on the DW. Seem promising. Her admonitions seems faint and far away vs. Celine Dion.
Put a set of ear cans over these and go jackhammering. I am hoping we are done with 90# jackhammers, 60# demo hammers and the like, but I have to remove stucco for my panel next week.
BTW - what worked really well on cutting through a footing? My little Makita roto hammer. I could sit there on my bucket with the handy bucket lid (OSH - your tip), adjust the work light for full glare, crank up the very useful duct fan with two utility outlets to blow all the dust elsewhere, select Bach on the Sanas and chip away.
About as fast as trying to get it with the Brute, and far more comfortable. We had the swamper hold a 2x4 under the Brute bit to allow us to angle it without it falling off in the first whack.
The pointy bit would work the cement between the pebbles. The wider bit would scrape sections off the work face or cut slots. Having the tool just beat on a pebble is a waste. Those are the survivors of millions of years of erosion. I have made bullet proof walls out of that stuff (3.5" works) that will stop an elephant rifle. The ToolBear

Test 2
There I was, peacefully doing my mail, reading Breaktime and listening to Billy Idol with the E2s and a set of the black rubber plugs mounted.
Strange, I don't recall that faint drum bit in this number. Like someone pounding far, far away and faint. Oh. Looked to the door. It was moving under Herself's thunderous knocking.
Oh, dinner time.
Oh, stand by while Herself "shares her thinking." She did.
They do seem to cut outside noise. Now, for the jackhammer test.

Keep a pair of big earmuffs around to put over the in-ear phones. It'll help you distinguish the voices of the backup singers while you've got the jackhammer going.zak

Earbuds inside the earmuffs would be superior in sound quality but I changed to muffs when daily use of foam plugs eventually irritated my ear canal.
Interesting torture test on the buds, LOL. I fear a similar test in my own environment would result in excess reverberation as skull deflected tossed object.

Wonder if a daily swab dipped in alcohol would keep the ears up. The ToolBear

I have the peltors to listen to the hockey games and have metal plates to create a magnetic field in my body so getting good reception was great for a change. I plug in my cell phone when i know Ill need it and can't escape. I t overides when I answer it maybe I'm special.
This is the secound set of peltors I have purchased and wouldn't have any other. I also have tennitis in both ears when I use power tools too long so the muffs bother my ears. it creates an echo so I had a set of custom ear plugs molded for my ears at an audiologists. I found them invaluable for my situation and 80.00 was well worth the price when the buzz whon't stop. A hearing aid company can help out if you are looking to have a set made with ear buds molded into them. that was an option.
